Clay Tennis Court Project

This 2021-2022 project began with a discussion on how to improve 6 existing clay tennis courts. The courts were frequently either too wet or too dry and with lots of play these were important issues. Clay tennis courts in New England are typically “fast dry” / Har Tru courts. This is a 2 inch layer of Har Tru on top of gravel.. These types of courts drain well and with a proven formula are fairly easy to design and install. An alternative is a real clay court. 6 inches of a clay soil with a thin layer of Har Tru on top. These tend to hold water at an even level for longer periods of time. The decision was to be build real clay courts, with new posts, irrigation and lighting.

All the site work, soil, laser grading and footing installation was supplied by Sports Turf Specialties. Irrigation installation by Gary Fialkosky Lawn Sprinklers.
